Hoshinoya Fuji: Glamping with a Luxury Twist

Art & Architecture

Family-Friendly

A private cabin, toasted marshmallows, and breakfast at the foot of Mt Fuji. Hoshinoya Fuji is Japan’s first-ever glamping resort - think camping atmosphere with a luxury twist.

Designed by Rie Azuma, each minimalist concrete cabin is immersed seamlessly into the red pine forest and has its own unique view over Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi.

The Offer

Each of Hoshinoya’s 40 concrete cabins points directly towards the towering Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi. Over a third of each room is taken up by a private terrace, complete with a heated kotatsu, which serves as the setting for personalised breakfast and dinner experiences. Resident 'Glamping Masters' are also on hand to introduce a range of activities including smoking food, cooking with a Dutch oven, and making pizza in an oven fueled by wood that you chopped yourself. What amazed us so much was the completely hidden section of the property, known as the Cloud Terrace – a series of stacked wooden walkways – where an open fire and bar are neatly tucked away.

The Location

The location of Hoshinoya Fuji is unrivalled and is personally the best and clearest view of Mt Fuji I have had from the comfort of my own bedroom. During your stay, you’ll be perfectly placed to explore the nearby wonders of Lake Kawaguchi and the Fuji Five Lakes region.

Who is it For?

Hoshinoya Fuji is ideal for couples, solo travellers, or honeymooners looking for a private escape and unique views of the surrounding nature. For any traveller looking to embrace their adventurous side, but without sacrificing comfort, the resort is an ideal place to reconnect with the wild, whilst indulging in the luxury of modern amenities.

Sustainability

Eco-conscious principles are a priority at Hoshinoya Fuji, from construction to daily operations, with many practices including solar power, rainwater harvesting, and locally sourced materials are just a few examples of the commitment to preserving the natural harmony that envelops the resort.

Getting Around

Hoshinoya Fuji can be easily accessed from Tokyo via the Kawaguchi area. By train take the JR Chuo Line from Tokyo Station to Otsuki Station. Transfer to the Fujikyuko Line to Kawaguchiko Station. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and costs around ¥3,500. Alternatively, you can opt for the direct highway bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal to Kawaguchiko Station. The ride lasts about 2.5 hours and costs around ¥2,000. For those seeking a self-driven adventure, travel by car from Tokyo to Hoshinoya Fuji. The drive takes around 2.5 to 3 hours and offers the flexibility to explore en route.
